LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (LNS)\u2014Dr. Timothy Leary, his wife and teen-age son, John, have been arrested here for possession of marijuana.<\/p>\n
The long time and old time guru said that the arrests were part of a continuing campaign of police harassment.<\/p>\n
Leary and his wife were released on $2,500 bail each. John was held “because of his condition.” Authorities refused to elaborate.<\/p>\n
Leary reiterated that “At a time when we have four appeals pending in higher courts, which may\u2014if successful\u2014invalidate the current marijuana laws, I state flatly this is police provocation and harassment.”<\/p>\n
You can jump off the Tallahatchie Bridge if you want, but it will cost you a $100 fine.<\/p>\n
It seems that since Bobbie Gentry made famous Greenwood, Mississippi’s bridge across the Tallahatchie River, there have been a lot of bridgejumpers (no doubt trying to discover why Billie Joe did it). Because of the bridge jumping, the LeFlore County Board of Supervisors enacted a law against the leap.<\/p>\n
Incidentally, the chances are you’ll have to pay the fine since you’re not likely to die or even hurt yourself in the plunge. It’s only 20 feet from the bridge to the muddy water below.<\/p>\n
