For the Continuity of Montreal’s Oldest Anarchist Space
Contribute to our campaign
Since 1982, 2033-2035 Boulevard Saint-Laurent has been a vital space for anarchism in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang). At the time, activists founded the Association des Espèces d’Espaces Libres et Imaginaires (AEELI) with the goal of acquiring the building that today houses three anarchist projects: the feminist and queer self-managed social space Les Révoltes, the DIRA Library, and L’Insoumise bookstore. Manifesto for Change
2011
Fuck Hamas. Fuck Israel. Fuck Fatah. Fuck UN. Fuck UNWRA. Fuck USA! We, the youth in Gaza, are so fed up with Israel, Hamas, the occupation, the violations of human rights and the indifference of the international community! We want to scream and break this wall of silence, injustice and indifference… READ MORE IN FIFTH ESTATE #385, FALL 2011.

HOW DEEP
IS DEEP ECOLOGY?
From the 1970s on the Fifth Estate has been publishing writings about the crisis of Western civilization and its industrial/technological plague.
The essay How Deep is Deep Ecology? (FE #327, Fall, 1987) began a detailed discussion of these and related issues, a conversation that is at least as relevant today as it was decades ago.
See also the related debate in Was Malthus right? (FE #328, Spring, 1988) and its continuation in Letters to the Editor.
This selection of Peter Werbe’s essays from the pages of the Fifth Estate explore some of the basic themes the publication addresses: anarchism, capitalism, technology, civilization, racism, patriarchy, politics, culture, music, the environment, his trips to Cuba, and other subjects.
